Season Improvements. 2007

We are doing several improvements to the clubhouse / outside clubhouse area in the early season. The idea is that we can enjoy an improved aspect to the course should we get the predicted long, hot summers.

Project 1: Gents toilet area refurbished.

Many thanks to Syd, who has renewed the walls and tiled floor.

Project 2: New 1sttees.

We are going to build a new 1st tee to the right of the existing one. Then, next year, with the new tee in play, we will be able to re-surface and flatten the existing tee. The tees will have brick walls across the back of the tee and on the side adjacent to the path. The diagram gives a rough idea of the new tee, though not to scale.

project 3: New path to 1sttee.

Each year we have topped up the pathway to the 1st tee with new woodchip. Eventually, the old woodchip underneath has started to go soft. We are scraping off the old woodchip down to the old MOT and adding more type 1. Finally, once the work on the new 1st tee has been completed, we will  add a layer of granite dust.

Project 4: Extension to patio areas around the clubhouse.

The first part of this project has been completed, with a new Astroturf path before the putting green and an extension to the patio area nearest to the 18th green. We have ordered a ramped shoe / trolley cleaning area to go in the corner so that you can blow the mud off trolley wheels and shoes and the mud will fall into a collecting area. This should arrive by the end of April.

We will also be extending the patio area around the clubhouse nearest to the 1st tee. This will make better use of the outside area of the clubhouse so that you can enjoy a beer and a sandwich in the sun! We will also be planting some conifers along the hit-and-miss fencing to start growing a wind-break. There will also be laurel hedging along the edge of the patio to help block the wind and give us some ‘sun-trap’ tables.

Project 5: Laurel hedging around the clubhouse.

We will be planting laurel hedging in various locations around the clubhouse. If this plant proves to be successful then we may plant it around several tees on the course next year.

Project 6: Granite tee markers for tees.
