Barry Crocker welcomes all new and existing members to the 2010 season.

I am truly honoured and proud to be your Club Captain for the year 2010.I can ensure you all that I will maintain the friendly and warm atmosphere within our Clubhouse, that’s what makes, in my opinion, AVGC a great club to be a member of and long may it continue. In fact you may even see me with a smile on occasions!
The committees will work hard to make all competitions run smoothly and a copy of club matches and Men’s competitions are on this site. Therefore, we need your support. “I’m not good enough to play in a club match does not work for me”. As long as you have a Congu recognised handicap then put your name down and you will get a game. Play in other competitions and meet new friends, that’s what AVGC is all about.
I wish all of you a successful 2010 season and hope your balls fly straight.I will certainly try my hardest to support our Charities this year.Keech Hospice Care and the Otters.
Finally, gentlemen just a gentle reminder please Avoid Slow Play. If you are in a Medal/competition and you have fallen behind by a hole or two why not call the group behind you through and wish them a good morning/afternoon it will make them happy and give you a good feeling for observing course etiquette. I would rather not have to send out committee members as marshals to avoid slow play. Therefore, please think who is behind you.
All the very best for 2010.
Barry Crocker (Captain)
Men’s Section
A full calendar exists for the men’s section. The varied range of golfing competition and formats can be found at the back of this handbook. We have the usual medals and stablefords and plenty of pairs and individual competitions for you to enter. Keep an eye on the notice board in the locker room for sign up sheets.
It doesn’t matter what your ability is, don’t be put off by the thought of being paired with superior golfers, we all have horror stories of missing fairways and putts, or even the course completely! So join in and feel part of the friendliest club for miles and after the golf, join us in the bar for a drink and chat.
The club matches are enjoyable social occasions. Teams are not selected on ability. The prerequisite of selection is an ability to laugh and stand your round at the bar. If you are un-successful once, try again; we do try to include as many players as possible throughout the season.
